So far on the Encourager, we have talked all about children and business.  This week I felt it necessary to have a chat about those wonderful spouses of ours!  Your partner can be your greatest asset and support to your business.  Cluing them in on your passions and goals can help you too see eye to eye and prevent unwanted tension.  My episode this week shares some tips I have learned through my entrepreneurial venture alongside my husband.  We didn’t do everything right in the beginning; but after twelve years I believe we have developed a helpful system that is worthwhile to share with you!

It is harvest season in the Midwest! The fact that my “harvest season” for my business coincides with my husband’s occupation may be a coincidence; but it only reiterates the importance of planning ahead for busy seasons!  Whether it is life or work, we all have eventful times of the year that require extra preparation and coordination.  My episode this week is geared at providing tips for big events in your industry. Specifically, I highlight planning ahead, estimating inventory demands, alerting loved ones for the impact, and wrapping up with the event with helpful organizing and financing tips.  You don’t want to miss the details in this one!

As a business owner, you are given lots and lots of advice--some good and some not. However, I am going to look at the positive side today in hopes of giving YOU some of the best tips I have gathered in my 12 years of work. Specifically, I outline the importance of becoming the status quo in your industry, staying true to your mission and vision, creating a business that others regard in the highest sense, hiring out the details so everyone can use their strengths, and lastly making sure the kids are given the appropriate attention to feel loved.  These five things, in my opinion, are the reasons Rebekah Scott Designs has been so successful.  Your business can be as well!   Join me today to learn more!

Taking a new spin on our interviews this week, I feel so encouraged share this powerful episode on happiness with Mike Ferry.  Mike Ferry is a father of four, a veteran middle school teacher, and also the author of Teaching Happiness and Innovation. His book’s vision is helping children develop habits of happiness and innovation.  During the episode we both share our philosophies of happiness and gratitude and how those concepts help to promote success.  The ideas we discuss in this podcast can easily be applied to your children’s lives but also to your own.  As Mike would say, it is never too late to develop creativity and grow your happiness!

As moms, we tend to put our husbands and children first.  We work and work so hard that we don’t realize what we are missing, we don’t notice why we are so off…Then, the lightbulb flashes and the thought occurs that our needs have been put on the back burner. However, most of us don’t take that light bulb moment and ACT on it.  Instead we think to ourselves, “I just don’t have time for hobbies right now.”  This couldn’t be farther from the truth! Stacy Curtis reminds us this week that our passions are what energize and lift us from the path of burnout. Using her passion of writing as a source of income and creative outlet, Stacy shares in this episode how she remains organized while still making time for her corporate job and family.

This week on “The Encourager” I focus in on expounding my priorities.  Being a servant of God, a wife to Nicholas, a mother of four, and owner and designer of Rebekah Scott Designs are the key components of me that guide my life. Everyone has their own priorities; but sometimes they can be hard to identify. One helpful tip (that I explain during the podcast) for pinpointing your priorities are listing off your deal breakers.  We have to be able to narrow down deal breakers so that we can clearly see our priorities. I hope today’s episode can help kick-start your priority list or fine tune the preexisting one!

Joining us on "The Encourager" this week is the resourceful Tiffny Hagan. An expert in virtual office assistance, Tiffny shares her story and wisdom about organization and dealing with pesky paperwork.  Today's ever-present technology can certainly enhance productivity, however, many of us (myself included) get too wrapped up in our devices.  We can lose the power of control and focus in our businesses, families, and relationships if we let technology consume our time. Tiffny's business, Virtual Office Advantage, is her way of helping businesses of all kinds organize and prioritize the influx information.  Listen this week to learn how to efficiently handle email, to create a hanging folder system in your home or business, and ultimately how to take back control!

This week on “The Encourager” I highlight the importance of a brain dump. Personally, I will go crazy if I try to keep all the reminders and to-do items inside my head!  Find out within the episode about the where, what, and why’s of my brain dumps. Closely connected to brain dumps are the distractions that keep us from accomplishing our to-do lists. Email, social media, TV, etc. get the best of us working moms if we allow them to!  Tune in to hear how I have limited distractions during the day so that you can apply a few techniques to your life.

Don’t panic!  Derailments happen to everyone—even the most organized, patient mother. This week I share a recent (mini)crisis in my business while providing 5 critical steps that allowed me to get back on track.  These steps can be applied to any variety of derailments caused from work, home, or family situations. I believe derailments are God’s way of slowing us down, humbling us, and reminding us to keep our focus on Him. The most important thing to do in these situations is to find your calm. Tune in to learn about my 5 key steps to get back on track along with a few personal tidbits I implement for my employees and myself when chaos arises.

The dynamite, Jenny Fenig, shares with us this week her amazing testament to motherhood and the work force.  Packed with wisdom and experience, Jenny talks about how her successful past in the corporate world was blocking her opportunity for spiritual fulfillment.  After her discovery of yoga and spiritual leadership, she quit her corporate job to begin working from home as a consultant and coach. Three kids later, she speaks with joy about her new work environment, following her life purpose, and being close to her loved ones.  You definitely will not want to miss this inspiring episode jam-packed with valuable advice!

“Time”…to us working moms, we can never have enough. Sitting down with us this week to talk about the struggle of managing time is the humble, Kassy Youmans. Inspired by the birth of her daughter, Kassy and her mother opened their own babies/children’s clothing business, Rejoicing DAY. A mother of two, full-time employee, wife, and owner of her own business, Kassy relates to any mom trying to make it all possible.  Kassy and I discuss the personal conflict of wanting to maintain 100% effort in all we do; yet knowing deep down our purpose lies behind our faith and families. Tune in this week to listen for helpful strategies that can alleviate your stress over “time”.

After receiving some much appreciated feedback from our listeners, I have noticed many of you wanted me to go even deeper into my morning routine and what it all entails; so I will do just that!  In previous episodes, I have explained the raw elements of my morning routine, but this episode I specifically explain the “why” behind each step of my mornings. I believe that because of my habitual routines, the efficiency of my family in the morning has increased immensely. I hope this provides the encouragement you need to making small changes in your routine—especially when you are bogged down by “pain points”.

Honesty is the best policy!  Humbly sharing my “bumps in the road”, I try to remain as transparent as possible in my journey as a mother and business owner.  This episode aims at reminding “The Encourager” listeners that my lifestyle is just like any other work at home mom.  From forgetting meetings to scheduling errors at the doctor’s office, I have done it all—while not be afraid to admit those mistakes!  For every misstep is a chance to learn and grow.  God continually humbles me each day and I hope to encourage women to reflect on those moments as well.

We are so excited to release this episode which covers the nitty gritty of accounting/office managerial work—best taught by our guest, Kerry Olvera. Kerry and her husband, Javier, have 4 children and multiple businesses together.  She works about 25 hours a week in business while being responsible for her children's education. Their family-operated business, Supermercado Mexico, received Michigan's Top 50 Companies to Watch in 2013, West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Most Promising Business 2012, and was nominated three years in a row for Business of the Year. The family was also nominated for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce EPIC Minority-owned Business of the Year. Her motto for getting through it all is “Do the Next Right Thing”.  Currently, she wipes spaghetti from the toddler's face, helps with math problems, and emails simultaneously. Sometimes, it gets messy.  Kerry reveals her secrets about organizing the business, keeping her priorities in line, and how she takes time for herself to make it all work.

Sometimes we all need an uplifting, motivating message.  I believe this episode will do exactly that for you!  First, I talk about the popular phrase "an attitude of gratitude" which I alter quite a bit based on my perception of gratitude. Second, I dive into how I continually teach myself gratitude and put it into practice in my daily routine.  Lastly, I explain how the foundation of gratitude will allow you to be joyful.  Life is more fun when we have joy and are surrounded by people who emit joy.  Tune in to the episode to get a taste of the gratitude and joy I have to share!

**We would like to apologize to all the listeners that the sound quality of this audio isn't our best; but believe us from here on out it will be much better.  We just had to share this new mommy's questions!**

Stephanie Swanson, owner of Prairie Flair Design, guests on our show this week to mainly talk about motherhood and how to balance work with a newborn.  In this episode, Stephanie asks many questions about the system I have created to figure out how she can take a few things that I do to apply to her routine. Diving deeper into my daily schedule, talking about goal planning, and most importantly balancing priorities are the highlights of this episode.

In this podcast, the Encourager goes into quite a bit of detail exactly how she does errands.  With four kids by her side (during the summer especially) it's all about finding the right day of the week and time of the day that works best with everyone's schedules and allows efficiency!  Listen carefully as Rebekah goes through grocery shopping, doctor's appointments, meetings, and ultimately to clothes shopping while providing a plan for the best time management.  The Encourager provides many tips in this episode how to involve the kids and create opportunities for development and responsibility!

In this episode, I emphasize the importance of leaving a legacy for your family.  We all want to create lasting memories for our children but they don't always have to be elaborate, beachfront vacations!  Some of the Scott family legacy builders include: journaling, scheduled memories, baking, mommy and daddy dates, and family values that I believe you can emulate in your household. I hope to encourage you to brainstorm with your spouse to find ways that work for your family to build that crucial legacy.
